Get Involved - Legislative Action: One role of the Massachusetts Affiliate of ACNM is to inform midwives and the public of legislative issues that affect the practice of midwifery as well as the women and children we care for. Our legislative team keeps on top of federal and state issues and legislation and notifies members of the MA Affiliate when action is needed. If you'd like to get involved contact Angela Ferrari. Legislative Success on February 2, 2012
Governor Duval Patrick signed H 3815 into law, congratulations and thank you to midwives, and supporters in Massachusetts!

This legislation will pave the way to better access to women's health care across the commonwealth by setting the stage for independent midwifery practice consistent with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery (link) and the Joint Statement of Practice Relations between OB/GYNs and CNM/CMs (link). However, our day-to-day lives will remain unchanged until we revise applicable regulatory language of AMCB certified midwives, and make sure hospital policies and relationships with insurance carriers are consistent with the law. Much work lies in the years ahead. Contact Angela Ferrari if you are willing to help.
